Abstract
Kokoelmassa esitellään ja arvioidaan historian ja historiallisen kulttuurintutkimuksen näkökulmista Suomen karjalaisten historiaa YYA-Suomesta NATO-Suomeen. Syyskuussa 2024 tulee kuluneeksi 80 vuotta siitä, kun Suomi menetti Kaakkois-Karjalan alueensa ja viimeisimmätkin seudun karjalaiset joutuivat jättämään kotiseutunsa. Kirjan päähenkilöinä ovat karjalaisissa kansalaisjärjestöissä ja kulttuuripiireissä mukana olleet ja yhä olevat. Karjalaisten muutto ei rajoittunut ainoastaan kohtalokkaaseen vuoteen 1944, vaan liike – sekä fyysinen että mentaalinen – on jatkunut sukupolvelta toiselle, vuosikymmenestä toiseen. Muutoksen ja sopeutumisen haasteita, käytevoimia ja katkoksia ovat olleet työntäyteiset uudet alut vierailla seuduilla, maaltapakoa seurannut kaupungistuminen, sisäinen luokkajako, kielelliset haasteet, 1970-luvulla nousseen kansainvälisen etnisen mobilisaation vaikutukset sekä 1990-luvun käänne Neuvostoliiton romahduksineen ja kotiseutumatkoineen. Karjalaisten suuressa muutossa ei kuitenkaan ole unohdettu kulttuurisen omakuvan ylläpitämistä ja muistikulttuurin varjelemista, säilyttämistä ja tuleville sukupolville siirtämistä. Ennen näkemättömän mittavassa kulttuurisessa siirtymässä Suomen karjalainen kansanliike on muokkautunut moniin suuntiin avautuvaksi mosaiikiksi ja kasvanut 1940-luvun pakkosiirtolaisuudesta 2000-luvun alun nuorkarjalaisen digikulttuurin piiriin. Muutoksen eri tasoja arvioidaan kokoelmateoksen kahdessatoista, eri yliopistoissa toimivien asiantuntijoiden kirjoittamassa luvussa.
