Abstract
Issue 14 of Praxis Journal: Education and Pedagogy of the Universidad del Valle brings together a diverse range of contributions that highlight the tensions, challenges, and possibilities of contemporary education in contexts marked by inequality, displacement, migration, diversity, rurality, and pedagogical transformation. As educators, we are well aware that educational institutions are facing profound social crises and cultural movements that pose significant challenges to teachers, students, and administrative staff alike. For this reason, it is necessary to recognize the deep relationship between education, society, and politics. This relationship requires overcoming the obstacle of a naïve understanding of the subject (the individual), as well as of society and politics. As the Canadian sociologist Michel Freitag points out, “any reflection on society, especially on politics and law, necessarily implies the category of the subject” (Freitag, 2002, Chapter 3, para. 1).
