Cet article examine les composantes méta-historiques de la gaslamp fantasy , un genre né dans les années 2000. La gaslamp fantasy dépeint une ère victorienne alternative, dans laquelle la magie a droit de cité et où d’importantes altérations géopolitiques ont eu lieu. Cette Histoire recomposée entraîne un mélange des époques, formant une carte du temps qui déploie simultanément plusieurs périodes du « long » XIX e siècle. L’article met en lumière la manière dont l’apparente décontraction de ces mélanges témoigne d’un projet créatif vis-à-vis de l’Histoire et de l’histoire de l’art, lequel passe par un fétichisme à la fois technologique et métafictionnel.
