« Baldi indaga in apertura del volume il rapporto fra sesso, nozione eminentemente biologica, e genere (calco dell’inglese gender), categoria sociale in cui confluiscono diversi elementi dell’identità personale, e approfondisce l’incidenza delle pressioni sociali sul comportamento, presentando una concisa rassegna di studi medici, come quelli neuroscientifici da cui è scaturito il cosiddetto neurosessimo, e di studi antropologici e psicologici, fra i quali spicca il saggio di Glick e Fiske (2001), che classifica i fattori responsabili degli orientamenti sessisti. Un punto di forza del volume, evidente fin dalle sue prime pagine, è la capacità di mettere in dialogo principi e acquisizioni di varie discipline, dalla linguistica alla sociologia, dalla filosofia del linguaggio all’analisi dei mass media e della comunicazione.
