Dans Sukkwan Island comme dans Goat Mountain , David Vann fait basculer l’intrigue : un tir déterminant contrecarre la ligne du récit d’abord inspiré de sa vie. En tant que contestataire du lobby des armes à feu aux États-Unis, l’écrivain expose ses personnages à des situations critiques dans lesquelles les armes sont à la fois signes de puissance et de dévastation. Cet article observe comment la fiction chez David Vann fait effraction dans le réel pour en déplier l’horreur et en renverser l’effet traumatique.
