Abstract
The twelfth edition of this Directory, published in 2001, contains information about philosophical activity in over 100 countries in Africa, Asia, Australasia, Europe, and Latin America. Like previous editions it is organized in six sections: Universities, Centers and Institutes, Societies, Journals, Publishers, and a compiled list of Names and Addresses of Philosophers. Within each section, entries are arranged alphabetically by country. An index is provided for each section, including cross-references for alternate or unfamiliar names. The information in these listings was collected in questionnaires sent to every relevant organization that could be identified as a center of philosophical activity. In some cases no response was received to these inquiries. In such cases the production team tried to locate current information from other sources. These entries are marked with an asterisk to let the reader know that the information was not confirmed first hand. Information about philosophical activity in the U.S. and Canada was published separately in the Directory of American Philosophers.
