Abstract
Teachers in Ontario often feel afraid to talk about Palestinian rights and freedoms within the public school system. This is due to the false equivocation of anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism, as well as the framing of Palestinian human rights as 'political' by the Ministry of Education of Ontario. This false equivocation is often being promoted within educational resources and professional development on anti-Semitism through the Ministry's partnerships with Zionist organizations in Ontario for these resources. Furthermore, a culture of surveillance and reprimand of educators who do talk about Palestinian rights and freedoms, further inhibits teachers from educating students on the issues. This culminates in creating school systems that are unsupportive of Palestinian students, educators, their families and their teacher allies. This paper hopes to demonstrate how language around Palestinian rights and freedoms is used, perceived, and distorted. In understanding these issues, teacher will be better able to discuss the issues in Israel-Palestine with integrity and authority with their students.
