Abstract
The purpose of this research is to identify and describe information related to individuals with complex needs in Ontario, across the lifespan, and the challenges in navigating the available programs and services. A narrative and holistic approach is used to describe and synthesize findings on the lived experiences of people with disabilities in Ontario. Disabled people with high and complex care needs are still at risk of institutionalization in Canada, which restricts their agency and quality of life. Ongoing research suggests that access to timely and reliable programs and services contribute to the wellbeing of individuals with complex needs and support them to live safely in their own homes. This is especially true for those who depend on government support due to financial constraints. This research project builds on academic literature, reports from government and non-governmental organizations, advocacy groups and knowledge produced and shared by people with disabilities in Ontario.
