Abstract
Résumé L’ingestion de piles boutons présente un risque aigu de blessure potentiellement mortelle, en particulier pour les jeunes enfants. Le Système canadien de surveillance des données sur les intoxications a signalé 1 021 cas d’ingestion d’une pile bouton à substance unique entre 2020 et 2023, et le Drug and Poison Information Centre (DPIC) de la Colombie-Britannique a géré 548 cas d’ingestion involontaire entre 2013 et 2023. Presque tous les cas du DPIC ont nécessité une admission à l’hôpital pour une imagerie radiologique et sept patients ont dû subir une intervention chirurgicale pour retirer la pile de l’œsophage. Nos conclusions plaident en faveur de l’élaboration d’étiquettes d’avertissement sur les produits et de la mise en place d’emballages et de compartiments de piles à l’épreuve des enfants sur les produits de consommation.
