Abstract
Este artículo ofrece la primera reconstrucción historiográfica integral del proyecto fílmico Celestina (1976) de Miguel Sabido, una adaptación marginada durante décadas tanto por la crítica cinematográfica mexicana como por los estudios celestinescos. A partir de documentación archivística, entrevistas, materiales teatrales y el análisis del contexto industrial y político del México de los años setenta, el estudio revela cómo el filme se gestó en un entorno adverso marcado por la censura institucional, la precariedad financiera y un prolongado retraso en su estreno. Se examina también la influencia decisiva de antecedentes teatrales en la configuración del proyecto. El artículo demuestra que la recepción negativa del filme respondió tanto a criterios estéticos como a prejuicios morales y literarios sobre la «fidelidad» al texto de Rojas. Frente a ello, se propone leer la obra de Sabido como una intervención intermedial que utiliza erotismo, simbología ritual y una puesta en escena liminal entre lo diegético y lo extrarreal para explorar la descomposición y restauración del orden moral. La investigación recupera el valor cultural, formal y político del filme y reivindica su relevancia como la reinterpretación fílmica más radical y teológicamente articulada del universo celestinesco fuera de España.
