Abstract
The film This House by Haitian-Quebec director Miryam Charles is subjected to an analysis at the crossroads of experimental documentary, enigmatic fiction and film essay. The film refuses a linear narrative; through the repetition of striking images, alienated narrative fragments, blank spaces and the whispering of monological voices, it constructs a complex and subjective reflection on a life between two worlds – between life and death, North America and Haiti. The film’s discussion takes a step-by-step look at the different elements of this complex fabric and how they interact, and interprets it against the backdrop of a traumatic narrative.
