Abstract
This essay examines the activist intermediality developed by Jean D’Amérique (Haiti) and Natasha Kanapé Fontaine (Innu, Québec) in order to address issues of colonialism, systemic violence, and cultural erasure, transcending linguistic and cultural barriers to promote decolonial solidarity. Both artists leverage intermediality – combining neo-oral traditions, written forms, and digital media – to reach broader audiences, bypassing traditional barriers of access and distribution. The analysis shows how Jean D’Amérique and Natasha Kanapé (Fontaine) extend their art beyond local contexts, embedding it within a global decolonial movement. Their work underscores the transformative power of art as a tool for justice and equity, offering a vision of solidarity, renewal, and shared futures grounded in resistance and resilience.
