« Le terme de religiologie existe depuis plus de quarante ans et je m’étonne encore des réactions qu’il suscite un peu partout ». Partant de son expérience et constatant sa difficulté à faire comprendre à ses interlocuteurs ce qu’il étudie, Louis Rousseau s’arrête sur le mot par lequel il définit l’entreprise savante à laquelle il participe : la religiologie. Le terme reste largement inconnu dans la francophonie sauf au Québec d’où il provient. Il en examine l’histoire au milieu des usages contemporains dans les institutions savantes et pour finir, il ébauche l’architecture interdisciplinaire que le terme devrait mettre en œuvre aujourd’hui pour convenir à un domaine du savoir critique en constante redéfinition.
