Abstract
Emergent use of the term “economic reconciliation” marks developing linkages between Canada’s policy for Indigenous–state reconciliation and capital. Increasingly, reconciliation carries fiscal expectations for Indigenous Peoples and economic potential for government and private enterprise. Focusing on the self-directed Indigenous tobacco industry, which operates outside of Canadian legal frameworks, I explore how the state project of reconciliation is evolving to play a greater role in delimiting Indigenous economic authority and jurisdiction.
