Abstract

Le présent article est la deuxième partie d’une étude de cas qui relate l’expérience de Nancy, une patiente atteinte d’un cancer de stade avancé, et de Laura, son infirmière spécialisée en oncologie, depuis le diagnostic jusqu’aux soins palliatifs précoces (SPP) et à la question de l’aide médicale à mourir (AMM). Il fait ressortir l’importance de la communication ouverte avec le patient, du soutien émotionnel et de l’accompagnement par les proches au cours du processus, dans la mesure où cela respecte les besoins de la personne qui demande l’AMM ou qui l’envisage. On y présente également les considérations éthiques de l’infirmière lorsque les croyances personnelles entrent en conflit avec les responsabilités professionnelles. Enfin, des points de vue pratiques et des suggestions sont proposés aux infirmières pour favoriser une approche compatissante et respectueuse des soins de fin de vie.
