Abstract
Râu là phần lông mọc trên khuôn mặt của đàn ông, là một đặc điểm sinh học xuất hiện khi nam giới bước vào tuổi trưởng thành. Trong văn học dân gian người Việt, hình ảnh bộ râu xuất hiện khá nhiều, nó không chỉ mang nghĩa tự nhiên hay thẩm mỹ mà còn là một ký hiệu văn hoá phản ánh các quan niệm của người Việt. Trong đó, râu thiêng xuất hiện trong thể loại truyền thuyết và cổ tích, gắn liền với các nhân vật linh thiêng như tiên, bụt, hay linh vật rồng. Râu cũng thể hiện sức mạnh, bản lĩnh đàn ông, là điểm cộng của nam giới, là tiêu chí mà nữ giới xét đến khi tìm bạn đời. Bộ râu cũng phần nào thể hiện tính cách con người, thậm chí cả những nét tính cách âm bản của người sở hữu nó.
