Abstract
This article examines the urbanization of the North Caucasus republics in the last quarter of the XX-th century. Drawing on diverse sources and scientific literature, it examines the role of household plots and the dacha sector in the expansion of urban areas and the elevation of rural settlements to the status of workers' settlements and urban settlements. Key trends in the study of this topic are outlined. The article focuses on the status of urban-type settlements, dacha and gardening associations, and their importance in increasing the level of urbanization in the studied areas, using materials from the North Caucasus republics of Dagestan, Karachay-Cherkessia, Kabardino-Balkaria, and the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania.
