Abstract
This essay uses the metaphor of the backyard carrot to expose how health systems misattribute systemic failure to individual behavior. Public health relies on correlation charts — BMI, symptoms, compliance — while burying the causation embedded in poisoned soil: nutritional omission, diagnostic delay, pharmaceutical acceleration, and economic constraint. Through examples spanning ADHD, psychosis, pediatric obesity, and ultra‑processed food environments, the essay demonstrates how micronutrient deficiencies are ignored while costly pharmaceuticals are rapidly adopted, particularly in Canada’s updated youth obesity guidelines. The carrot becomes a diagnostic tool: crooked outcomes are blamed on families while the soil itself remains unexamined. By reframing omission as breach evidence, the essay argues that misdiagnosis is suppression, delay is choreography, and lifestyle narratives function as containment architecture. It concludes with a manifesto demanding micronutrient diagnostics, exposing pharmaceutical malpractice, and rejecting correlation as a substitute for causation.
