Este trabajo tiene como objetivo analizar los fonos y fonemas del aymara hablado en Chile. A partir de una muestra de 17.938 sonidos de esta lengua, se busca proponer un inventario en base al de Poblete y Salas (1997) y a la realización de estudios acústico-estadísticos, análisis espectrográficos y con especial atención a la vitalidad de los fonemas. Los resultados indican que todos los fonemas se realizan fonéticamente como se esperaba, que las variaciones presentes concuerdan con lo reportado en estudios previos y que, en términos fonológicos, la lengua se mantiene altamente vital.
