Abstract

Accurate modeling of radio wave propagation is essential for the design and deployment of wireless communication systems in tunnels. Among various numerical deterministic methods, the finite-difference (FDPE) parabolic equation and split-step (SSPE) parabolic equation approaches have been extensively adopted due to their favorable trade-offs between accuracy and computational efficiency. However, a rigorous comparative evaluation of these two methods remains insufficiently addressed in the literature. This paper presents a systematic investigation into the numerical performance of FDPE and SSPE techniques for tunnel propagation modeling. Both error behavior and computational complexity are analyzed under various configurations.
