Abstract
O trabalho analisa as áreas de moradia em terrenos da Superintendência do Porto do Rio Grande (SUPRG) no município do Rio Grande no sul do Rio Grande do Sul. O porto do Rio Grande é o mais meridional do Brasil e após as obras de regularização de sua barra e a construção do cais de atracação contribuiu para constituir um distrito industrial a partir da década de 1970 que se combinou com indústrias que estão na gênese da industrialização do sul do país. As movimentações nos terminais públicos e privados colocam o porto entre os principais do país. Também será apresentada a trajetória das ligações entre o porto e a cidade através dos resultados de uma pesquisa realizada em áreas da SUPRG usadas como moradia passíveis de remoção para a ampliação das atividades portuárias e industriais.
