Abstract
Le propos de cet article porte sur un projet d’histoire du théâtre au Québec de 1945 à nos jours. Ce travail collectif qui s’est échelonné sur près de huit ans s’est conclu en septembre 2020 avec la publication d’un ouvrage qui sera, dans l’historiographie théâtrale québécoise, le premier du genre. Il présente notamment, en plus d’identifier les principaux repères chronologiques et les figures et organismes qui ont marqué la vie théatrale québécoise, une analyse de son développement institutionnel. Dans les pages qui suivent, il s’agira de revenir sur cette analyse en explicitant les principes et les valeurs ayant servi de vecteurs communs à l’établissement de l’institution théâtrale. Le but n’est pas de résumer l’ouvrage mais de présenter le cadre de compréhension qui a guidé la construction du récit du passé théâtral pour ouvrir, en dernier lieu, sur les limites qu’il imposait et les chemins que pourraient prendre une ou d’autres histoires possibles des pratiques dramatiques et scéniques au Québec.
