A cada vinte anos, a Organização das Nações Unidas (ONU) promove a Conferência sobre Habitação e Desenvolvimento Urbano Sustentável (Habitat) voltada para debater os problemas de habitação e de desenvolvimento urbano e para firmar compromissos internacionais que favoreçam a existência e a produção de assentamentos humanos sustentáveis. Durante a preparação para a realização da terceira edição do Habitat, a ONU propôs a produção de relatórios nacionais dos Estados-membros a fim de orientar as negociações da Nova Agenda Urbana (NAU) mundial. A convite do Conselho Nacional de Cidades (ConCidades), o Ipea foi o responsável pela redação do Relatório Brasileiro para a Habitat III. Neste contexto, o texto a seguir discute os principais temas incorporados nesse processo de discussão/construção da Nova Agenda Urbana brasileira.
