Discomfort in public schools: a sociological analysis of the psychological suffering of high school students in a public school in Marília-SP

Abstract
Este texto, desenvolvido no âmbito de um mestrado profissional, investiga a relação entre o sofrimento psíquico de jovens do ensino médio e o processo de neoliberalização da sociedade, com foco no contexto das reformas curriculares paulista. O estudo parte da seguinte questão norteadora: O que e (se) pode o ensino de sociologia contribuir com a coletividade escolar diante do sofrimento psíquico de jovens no ensino médio? A pesquisa problematiza a medicalização do social, que transforma questões estruturais — como desigualdades de raça, classe e gênero — em problemas individuais, reforçando lógicas neoliberais que responsabilizam os sujeitos por seus próprios adoecimentos. Metodologicamente, o trabalho combina revisão bibliográfica crítica com base em autores como Michel Foucault, Pierre Dardot e Christian Laval, e análise qualitativa de um diário de pesquisa, construído durante a atuação da autora como docente em uma escola pública periférica de Marília-SP. O diário, inspirado no conceito de imaginação sociológica de Charles Wright Mills, registrou observações e reflexões sobre as dinâmicas escolares, articulando teoria e prática para entender como o ensino de sociologia pode desnaturalizar as causas do sofrimento juvenil. Conclui-se que a sociologia, enquanto disciplina crítica, oferece ferramentas para politizar o sofrimento, conectando experiências individuais a estruturas sociais opressoras. A pesquisa defende uma práxis pedagógica que resista à medicalização e à despolitização, promovendo espaços de discussões e escuta somados a uma ação política na escola. Assim, o estudo reforça, ainda que limitado, um potencial transformador do ensino de sociologia na desconstrução de narrativas neoliberais e no acolhimento das subjetividades juvenis.
