Abstract
The major aim of the present article is to examine the dispute, which occurred from 1905 to 1915, between the Canadian company Rio de Janeiro Light and Power and the Brazilian group Guinle around the suply of electrical power to Rio de Janeiro¿s market. The conflict, proceeded by imperialistic expansion in Latin America, also involved different levels of the Brazilian state and ended with the complete triumph of foreign interests.
