No carnaval carioca, destacam-se as escolas de samba que desfilam na Avenida Marquês de Sapucaí, o sambódromo da Praça Onze, centro da cidade do Rio de Janeiro. No entanto, existe na cidade outra passarela do samba menos conhecida, menos glamourosa, cujos desfiles não são televisionados nem atraem turistas, mas que é o palco de sambistas, artistas e foliões que desfilam em escolas e blocos na Estrada Intendente Magalhães, via que corta vários bairros do subúrbio carioca, entre eles Madureira...
