Abstract
A prática do tiro ao alvo chegou ao Rio Grande do Sul no século XIX com os imigrantes alemães. Na década de 1860 foi fundada a primeira associação de tiro no Estado pela iniciativa de um grupo de homens. A questão norteadora desta pesquisa histórico-cultural é como sucedeu a emergência, a ascensão e as conformações das sociedades de damas atiradoras na cidade de Santa Cruz do Sul na primeira metade do século XX. As fontes históricas revelaram que as mulheres passaram a praticar o tiro em associações próprias denominadas de “sociedade de damas”, a partir de 1900 em Santa Cruz do Sul, quando fundaram a sociedade pioneira no estado do Rio Grande do Sul.
