Abstract
In this work, a YAG:Ce³⁺ phosphor for the conversion of blue light into yellow light with an increased red component was synthesized. The red component was enhanced by adding Cr-doped Al₂O₃ with strong red emission, synthesized by the glycine-nitrate method, to a commercial YAG:Ce phosphor powder. It was found that the optimal Cr concentration in Al₂O₃ was 0.3 mol%. After sintering at 1600 °C, dense YAG:Ce samples containing Cr-doped Al₂O₃ in amounts ranging from 1 to 10 wt% were obtained. Microstructural analysis revealed that Cr-doped Al₂O₃ grains were distributed within the YAG:Ce matrix. It was demonstrated that this composite phosphor converts blue light into yellow light with an enhanced red component. The highest red contribution was measured in YAG:Ce samples containing 5 wt% Cr-doped Al₂O₃. The increase in the red component was accompanied by a decrease in the intensity of the yellow emission due to electron transfer from CE to Cr as well as absorption of blue light by the Cr-doped Al₂O₃.
