Partendo dall’interesse di Glissant per la salvaguardia della molteplicità linguistica, di cui testimoniano in particolare le interviste concesse nel corso degli anni a Lise Gauvin, il saggio si sofferma sull’ultima produzione dello scrittore alla ricerca delle voci della terra e del mondo, come indicano il sottotitolo, “Poésie en étendue”, del suo ultimo, importante, lavoro teorico, Philosophie de la Relation (2009), e l’antologia La Terre, le feu, l’eau et les vents. Une anthologie de la poésie du Tout-monde (2010). Due lavori che, pur nella loro straordinaria diversità, mostrano come Glissant, più noto per la sua opera saggistica e narrativa che per la sua poesia, abbia in realtà sempre privilegiato quel linguaggio poetico che meglio di altri permette agli uomini di comunicare tra loro, quale che sia la lingua in cui scrivono la loro opera.
