La littérature migrante représente une étape importante dans la dynamique de la littérature québécoise tant sur le plan scriptural que théorique. L’article résume, dans un premier temps, les éléments axiologiques structurants du champ littéraire québécois qui, dès les années 1960, préparent le terrain à l’entrée et à l’intégration des auteurs migrants dans le canon québécois. Il s’agit notamment de la territorialisation identitaire et culturelle, ressentie comme inachevée aussi bien par les auteurs québécois (Jacques Ferron) que par la critique (Laurent Mailhot), et que Pierre Nepveu rapproche des auteurs migrants en soulignant les similitudes. La composante complémentaire du processus revient aux Italo-Québécois et aux Haïtiens qui thématisent et théorisent, au cours des années 1990, la situation exilique en transformant la perception de l’altérité culturelle et ethnique en problématique existentielle, éthique et scripturale traduite par les concepts de nomadisme et enracinerrance. À la différence de ses compagnons d’exil – Robert Berrouët-Oriol, Jean Claude Charles, Joël Des Rosiers – Émile Ollivier traite la condition exilique sur deux plans complémentaires. Le premier envisage la relation nomade-sédentaire sous l’aspect historique en constatant le renversement axiologique au profit du nomadisme comme condition humaine dominante du monde postmoderne. Le second en déduit des conséquences philosophiques associées à l’écriture. Le propos est illustré par trois ouvrages – la réflexion théorique Repérages (2001) et les deux romans de la dernière période Passages (1994) et La Brûlerie (2004). L’analyse permet de dégager le lien entre la thématique exilique et les conséquences qu’Émile Ollivier en tire à la fois pour la structuration de la spatialité, la narration et le statut de l’écriture comme manifestation de la dynamique du vide. Exemple du processus intégrateur, la poétique d’Émile Ollivier anticipe certaines tendances de la littérature québécoise après 2000.
