Abstract
La figure du labyrinthe fait souvent retour dans l’oeuvre de Dominique Fortier où elle s’accompagne chaque fois de la question de la sortie. Comment trouver son chemin quand on est perdu ou pris dans une impasse ? À cette question, la romancière répond qu’il faut l’inventer. Mais parce que cette invention est essentiellement une recherche, elle est ordonnée. La mise en ordre des choses, du temps, des espaces, de la matière est au coeur de l’oeuvre de Dominique Fortier qui pour l’opérer recourt à différents moyens, qui sont tous des formes de notation, c’est-à-dire de repères et de balises, grâce auxquelles il est possible d’avancer : l’étymologie, qui en remontant au sens souvent perdu des mots, le restitue au présent ; la liste et l’énumération, qui prêtant attention au réel, permettent de lier entre eux des objets, des gestes et des situations qu’on ne pense pas forcément réunir ; l’attention au mot juste et à ce qui peut être désigné précisément. Ces modes de mise en ordre sont aussi des espaces de partage avec le lecteur, auquel Dominique Fortier souvent s’adresse, qu’elle intègre à sa quête et qu’elle rejoint, leur communiquant par cet accueil, qui est aussi chez elle une valeur, un monde précisément nommé.
