Abstract
Mettant en parallèle les questions d’identité de genre et de généricité, cet article s’intéresse à la manière dont Du bon usage des étoiles reprend les codes genrés de l’imaginaire du Nord de façon à les renverser peu à peu au fil de l’intrigue. La réflexion veut ainsi prendre acte d’un étoilement narratif qui contamine le rapport à l’identité de genre chez lady Jane et Francis Crozier. Respectivement rattachés au roman de moeurs et au récit d’exploration, lady Jane et Crozier échouent à se conformer au récit auquel ils sont liés, tout en éprouvant un malaise vis-à-vis les codes genrés qui en découlent. L’article réfléchit à la manière dont ce rapport conflictuel entraîne une reconsidération des valeurs impérialistes des explorateurs polaires du xix e siècle, révélant par là une perception contemporaine des rapports aux genres littéraires, au genre et au territoire, dans le premier roman de Dominique Fortier.
