À partir d’une étude ethnographique menée dans plusieurs refuges pour migrants, cet article montre qu’il existe un décalage entre le discours de l’hospitalité véhiculé dans ces espaces et les pratiques d’accueil caractérisées par des hiérarchies et une dimension de contrôle. Certaines ambigüités de l’hospitalité se révèlent ainsi dans l’équilibre précaire visant à construire un idéal égalitaire et fraternel, tout en y réemployant des relations de pouvoir issues d’un ordre profondément inégalitaire. En se penchant sur le point de vue des personnes migrantes, cet article montre aussi comment leur intégration de la providence divine aux logiques de l’hospitalité leur permet de minimiser ces ambigüités, et ce, même si elle réaffirme les relations asymétriques entre les groupes qui composent cette relation.
