El valle de Sondondo, en el departamento de Ayacucho, es uno de los mejores ejemplos de paisaje aterrazado de esta región de los Andes, ya que conserva una gran extensión de terrazas y andenes todavía en funcionamiento. Además, este excepcional valle atesora un conjunto único de afloramientos rocosos tallados que representan profusamente el paisaje agrario; son las llamadas piedras-maqueta. En esta contribución exponemos diversos aspectos de la relación entre estas piedras labradas y sus respectivos entornos. Los afloramientos rocosos, donde se labran andenes, terrazas o el sistema de irrigación mediante el grabado de canales y qochas, son hoy el reflejo en piedra de la memoria de este excepcional paisaje aterrazado. A pesar de su abandono u olvido en tiempos pasados, su importancia ha pervivido en el entorno desde diversos símbolos, lo que demuestra su fuerte poder simbólico. Exploramos su recuerdo en las comunidades locales y en el territorio actual y pasado donde se encuentran.
