Abstract
This chapter traces how Islam distinctively shapes Muslim humanitarian projects in Jordan and Canada. In turn, it locates contemporary relief work against historiographical and political-theological debates over how to conceptualize the Muslim Community; it troubles the acts of secular translation that generally mediate humanitarianism and religion; it considers the problem of representing suffering in Muslim humanitarian spaces; it explores the ethical stakes to Islamic pedagogy in sites of exile; and it eschatologically reorients the difficulty of finding refuge. Whether practicing solidarity, translating responsibility, representing suffering, or transmitting the tradition, these spaces of refugee support are thoroughly infused by Islamic discourses and practices.
