Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The article highlights the issue of the spatial development of the Bar Starostvo territory in the 15th–16th centuries. A comparative analysis is conducted of the state of the territory before and after the year 1537, when the Bar Starostvo began to take shape under the influence of the economic activities of Queen Bona Sforza, a representative of Italian Renaissance culture. In historical and urban-planning studies, insufficient attention is paid to the influence of the Italian Renaissance on the spatial development of the territory of Ukraine. The active phase of this influence begins in the second quarter of the 16th century with the economic activity of Bona Sforza, the wife of the King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania, Sigismund I. The town of Bar (Vinnytsia Oblast), founded by the queen in 1538 under Magdeburg Law, has, since 2008, become the object of active research by archaeologists, local historians, and architects. In 2008, 2010, 2014, and 2016, scientific local-history conferences were held in Bar, where most studies were devoted to the town’s history, its spatial planning, and fortification structures; however, the issue of the spatial development of the entire territory of the Bar Starostvo, the organization of infrastructure, and the provision of the resources necessary for the functioning and combat capability of the castle itself during Queen Bona’s period of economic activity was not addressed. Historical and urban-planning studies are a component of the development of comprehensive plans for the spatial development of the territories of territorial communities of Ukraine. The stages of the historical development of community territories are a component of the historical and architectural reference plans of historical cities. According to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 878 of 26.07.2001 “On Approval of the List of Historical Settlements of Ukraine,” such a historical city is the city of Bar in Vinnytsia Oblast. The study of the development of the territory of the Bar Territorial Community during the period of the influence of the Italian Renaissance in the 16th century determines its novelty. The aim of the publication is to determine the features of the influence of the Italian Renaissance on the development of the territory of the Bar Starostvo during the period when this territory was owned by Queen Bona Sforza (1537-1552), as a bearer of Renaissance culture.
