Abstract
Аннотация.Статья посвящена анализу важного этапа в истории археологического изучения Кабардино-Балкарии -периоду последней четверти XIX -начала XX века.Именно в это время, после проведения V Археологического съезда в Тифлисе (1881 г.), исследования на Северном Кавказе приобретают более систематический характер.В работе рассматривается деятельность как организованных научных экспедиций (В.Ф.Миллера, экспедиции Московского археологического общества), так и частных лиц -чиновников, краеведов и любителей древностей (Д.А.Вырубова, И.А.Владимирова, В.Р.Апухтина).Особое внимание уделяется двойственной природе этого процесса: с одной стороны, проводятся первые масштабные раскопки разновременных памятников (работы В.И.Долбежева, М.М.Ковалевского, В.Б.Антоновича), появляются научные публикации и формируются музейные собрания; с другой -исследования часто носили случайный характер и были нацелены на пополнение частных коллекций, что вело к разграблению памятников и распылению находок по музеям России и Европы.На основе представленного материала делается вывод о том, что данный период, несмотря на все противоречия, заложил основу источниковой базы и сформировал первоначальный научный интерес к древностям региона, последствия которого ощущались и в последующие советские десятилетия.
