Le boycott politique des Jeux olympiques de MontréalUne double crise sans précédent vient perturber le bon déroulement des Jeux olympiques de 1976 à Montréal. La première débute le 17 mai 1976 entre le gouvernement canadien, le gouvernement communiste de Pékin et la République de Chine. Finalement la République de Chine se retire des Jeux. Quant à la seconde, elle se déroule quelques jours avant l’ouverture des Jeux. De nombreux Comités nationaux olympiques africains souhaitent boycotter les Jeux pour dénoncer la présence de la Nouvelle-Zélande qui a autorisé son équipe nationale de rugby à se rendre en Afrique du Sud. Trois éléments déterminants vont accélérer la décision prise par ces gouvernements africains de boycotter les Jeux : les élections en Nouvelle-Zélande, le massacre de Soweto et la réunion des ministres de l’Organisation de l’Unité africaine à l’île Maurice.
