Abstract
Découvert dans les minutes d’un notaire parisien, le testament de Louis Weil est d’un grand intérêt.Il permet de découvrir parmi ses légataires plusieurs membres de la famille Weil dont on ignorait jusque-là l’existence. Il permet de mesurer le degré d’intimité qu’il avait avec eux et d’affection qu’il leur portait à l’aune des legs qu’il leur fait. Il permet aussi de voir à quel point Moïse Baruch Weil, qui se faisait appeler Louis, restait cependant attaché à la communauté juive, dont les « pauvres » sont cités en premier lieu parmi les légataires qu’il désigne. Complété par plusieurs autres documents notariés, le testament permet enfin d’évoquer concrètement la maison d’Auteuil et surtout la maison du boulevard Haussmann dans laquelle Marcel Proust s’est établi après la mort de sa mère. On sait combien ces lieux ont eu d’importance dans l’imaginaire proustien. Comme l’oncle Louis devenu l’oncle Adolphe.
