Abstract
A New Fragment of the Eponymous Lists of Imperial Cyrene · This article examines a previously unpublished inscription from Cyrene, which joins another already known (IR Cyrenaica 2020 C.33). The new and improved text belongs to the category of lists of the eponymous priests of Apollo, which proliferated from the time of Augustus. It allows the reconstruction, on prosopographical grounds, of a complete list of priests for the third quarter of the 1st century AD. The inscription also provides an opportunity to investigate the typology of the lists and the places where they were displayed, in particular for those exhibited on the portal leading to the adyton of the temple of Apollo. The reasons behind the choice of names to be inscribed on the stelae and on the temple, as well as their tempo- rality, are shed in a whole new light, showing that some priests may have had their names inscribed a posteriori. These considerations also enable us to propose a new dating for the third construction phase of the Cyrene Apollonion.
