En 2000 et 2001 a été mise en place une réforme de l’enseignement du français au lycée définissant « l’histoire littéraire et culturelle » comme la première des quatre « perspectives » à mettre en œuvre dans l’étude des textes. D’assez nombreux documents pédagogiques ont vu le jour à cette occasion, qu’il est intéressant de consulter, car ils apportent aussi à la recherche théorique des éléments nouveaux de réflexion concernant les définitions de l’histoire littéraire, les écueils de ses méthodes et les manières concrètes d’insérer un savoir historique dans un cours de littérature. Une synthèse est ici proposée sur ces divers sujets, comme aussi une invitation à redéfinir peut-être certaines notions définissant les programmes, certaines méthodes proposées aux enseignants : ces imprécisions ou ces difficultés pourraient sans doute être en partie levées si les spécialistes de l’histoire littéraire proposent leurs idées et leurs solutions.
