Abstract
Est-il possible d’élargir le champ de la philosophie médiévale pour y inclure Le mirouer des simples ames de Marguerite Porete ? L’absence de la béguine du canon philosophique s’explique en partie par ce qu’on entend par « philosophie médiévale ». Depuis plus de cent ans, elle est généralement réduite à la scolastique, valorisant principalement la forme littéraire de la quaestio ou du commentaire. Or, l’analyse de la position controversée de Marguerite sur les vertus montre que, loin d’être hérétique, son discours reflète la distinction entre vertus naturelles et surnaturelles nouvellement adoptées par les maîtres universitaires. Les similitudes qui existent entre le Miroir et les théories scolastiques, ainsi que la culture d’échange qui existait entre maîtres et béguines, invitent donc à revoir les catégories léguées par l’histoire de la philosophie et à repenser le rapport entre femmes et philosophie à la lumière d’investigations sociohistoriques.
