La métaphysique de Marcel Conche s’ancre dans ce qu’il nomme « l’expérience métaphysique de l’infinité de la Nature ». Or, contre une telle notion s’élèvent au moins deux objections importantes, qui ont récemment été adressées à Conche : d’une part, on peut se demander si l’idée même d’une expérience de l’Infini n’est pas une contradiction dans les termes, toute expérience étant nécessairement finie ; d’autre part, même si l’on accorde qu’une telle expérience soit possible (sous la guise notamment du « sentiment océanique » de R. Rolland), on peut douter qu’elle recèle une quelconque pertinence métaphysique, une expérience subjective ne prouvant rien au sujet de la réalité en soi, comme y a insisté Kant. L’objet du présent essai est de mieux expliciter la conception conchéenne de l’expérience métaphysique en vue de la défendre contre ces objections. Loin d’être impossible, on tentera de montrer que cette expérience est en vérité constitutive de l’existence humaine comme telle.
