Abstract
Comment parler de peinture ? Cet article propose d’analyser la façon dont la peinture de Francis Bacon annonce le dépassement des oppositions qu’elle contient, entre peinture et littérature, abstrait et figuratif, sensation et langage. En confrontant cette oeuvre aux analyses qu’en fit Gilles Deleuze et aux prises de parole de Bacon lui-même, il s’agit de montrer la façon dont cette pratique artistique a dépassé le vocabulaire disponible à l’époque pour en parler, qui continue de faire jouer la sensation contre le langage, le système nerveux contre le cerveau. Il n’est pas question d’un divorce essentiel entre théorie et pratique, mais plutôt d’un décalage historiquement situé entre une pratique artistique et les discours qui lui sont contemporains.
