Abstract
In this paper, we propose a high-gain dual-band antenna system with pattern reconfigurable by using frequency-selective surface (FSS). The microstrip patch antenna is modified by inserting two T-shaped slots to provide dual-band response at 1.7 GHz and 3.7 GHz. The reconfigurable FSS design is based on V-shaped elements with bias network within array. A single PIN diode per unit cell is used as active device. The reconfigurable FSS exhibits switchable single-stopband response. The proposed system consists of placing the reconfigurable FSS in front of the MA to act as a reflector. By switching the PIN diode state, the system enhances the gain of the antenna and reconfigure its radiation pattern.
