The Metaverse will define the next generation of the Internet. Synchronizing users’ digital assets while achieving low latency is a major Metaverse challenge. The Named Data Networking stack provides Sync functionality for synchronizing user datasets while also reducing latency. No Metaverse-specific Sync protocol exists, so we propose Spatial Sync (SPASY). SPASY uses geohashing in an edge environment to inform users of nearby digital assets. This approach supports both asset synchronization and asset discovery. We describe SPASY’s design, and our simulations show that SPASY is capable of meeting Metaverse latency requirements while keeping user datasets synchronized.
