La légende fait du théâtre de Jean-Luc Lagarce un théâtre de paroles, presque clos à force de se désintéresser du monde, occupé à ausculter l’intime, hanté par la seule menace de la mort. L’hypothèse ici envisagée est tout autre : celle d’un théâtre à ce point conscient de la « force terrible du pouvoir » qu’il déploie une poétique du détour. Cette poétique du détour, ce parti pris de l’incertitude semblent ainsi pouvoir être appréhendés comme une manière esthétique, éthique, politique d’être au monde. Ce sont eux qui permettent à Lagarce d’opposer aux exactitudes menaçantes le tremblement maintenu d’une quête heureusement infinie. Juste la fin du monde en témoigne.
