Abstract
On Sher’s view, three modes of thought make up the cognitive modality of truth: an immanent mode; a transcendent mode; and a normative mode. I locate the issue of the cognitive modality of truth in Sher’s value theory of truth. I discuss how to read the issue of cognitive modality into the deflationary view. My focus will be on the contrast between Sher’s inflationary theory and a minimal, but still inflationary, alternative. The net result is a friendly amendment to Sher’s view that eschews rather than accepts a connection between the cognitive modality of truth and correspondence theories of truth.
