Abstract
Este capoítulo analizará el área cultural del Ártico norteamericano y de sus habitantes, los inuits o esquimales. Las autoras consideran uno de los aspectos que atravesó el interés por el estudio de esta sociedad a lo largo del tiempo, desde el tratamiento de los autores clásicos como Marcel Mauss, hasta las etnografías más recientes: la morfología social general y estacional. Luego se presenta el mito de origen de la diosa Sedna para el análisis de otros aspectos de la vida inuit y sus transformaciones a lo largo del tiempo. Sobre el final, las autoras reflexionan sobre la importancia de la transmisión intergeneracional y los reclamos territoriales en los procesos de reconocimiento de la identidad inuit.
