Abstract
The article recaptures the identity problem of French Canadians (living outside Québec) exploring the margins in order to establish their identity in a better way at the end of the 21st century. Like any society, the Canadian francophonie was influenced by the great currents of ideas, systems of representation and values. French Canada lived for a long time sheltered from three great certainties; Rome, for Catholicism, Paris for culture and language or belonging to a certain civilization, and London for politics or belonging to a political unity having imperialist ambitions. Yesterday's certainties have become uncertainties today because none of these three French Canadian cultural units fit globally to the French Canadians anymore. They live today as a minority in particular conditions requiring specific developments. In these circumstances, the francophonie all over the world represents a new network of values and possible relationships.
